Podcasting Gear
When you are first starting out the podcasting gear that you need
should not be too expensive. Buying used is okay as it will save you
money and help you begin your podcasting adventure while keeping
your costs down. Some people feel that their initial expenses could
run into the thousands. But really you should be able to get started
with an investment of only a few hundred dollars. Do not forget that
part of what you need to begin podcasting will be a domain name that
makes you easy to find. Then plan what you want to say and how you
want your podcast to go and this will help you to make better
decisions on what kind of equipment you need.
To keep your expenses down use your computer as your studio. It has
all the functions that you need to begin. The initial software that
you need can be found on the internet for free. If you want you can
update to something a little better but it really makes more sense
to make your initial podcasting gear less expensive until you decide
whether this is something you want to do enough times to make
putting more money into equipment a good idea. Along with your
computer you will need a good microphone and a headset. Over time if
you decide you want to really get into podcasting you should upgrade
your microphone and get a good mixer.
The key to deciding what to buy and at what stage depends on what
kind of podcast you are doing. This further depends on the audience
you are trying to reach. If you find that your podcasts are
successful, that you are reaching your target audience you may begin
to consider upgrading your podcasting gear. Again, buying used
equipment to get better quality apparatus than you would otherwise
be able to afford is smart: lower prices is a make sense choice. You
can easily break the bank investing in expensive microphones, good
ones start at about two hundred and fifty dollars, mixers, headsets,
and software.
